サッサイア スペシャル エディション2023ですが、オータが彼らに提案した当時に思い描いていたように、木樽でほぼ丸2年熟成させたものになります（樽での熟成を1年未満にとどめるのなら、樽は1ヴィンテージ分あれば良いわけですが、1年と3カ月寝かせようと思ったら、2ヴィンテージ分が必要に…。それだったら、丸2年置くことにしたら？というのが、オータが彼らに提案したことでした！）。別にオータのアイデア通りにやったからというわけではないのですが、今回の2023はスペシャル エディションがノーマルのサッサイアとは明らかに異なる、過去最高レベルでスペシャルな雰囲気をたたえたワインとなっている気がします…。

Aromas of orange peel, apricot, and ginger. Well-balanced acidity, with fruit flavors of orange peel and apricot, tannins reminiscent of black tea leaves, and a savory umami depth balanced by a firmly dry finish.

As for the Sassaia Edizione Speciale 2023, it has been aged in wooden barrels for nearly a full two years — just as Ota envisioned when he first proposed the idea to the winery. (If barrel aging were kept to under a year, one vintage's worth of barrels would suffice. But if you wanted to age for, say, one year and three months, you'd need two vintages' worth of barrels... So Ota's suggestion was: why not just leave it for a full two years?) It's not that they followed Ota's idea to the letter, but this 2023 Edizione Speciale truly feels distinctly different from the standard Sassaia — carrying what may be the most special, elevated character we have seen to date.
